Guild Years

Apprenticeship

The campaign begins with our party having just returned from their first out of town assignment. it was to be a simple escort job to protect a middle-class merchant and his goods that he brought back from Kayde. The round trip took 4 weeks. during this time your party had a chance to Bond. There were 6 from The Guild at the start but only 6 came back. On the last night the 7th man, a scruffy thief named Stavros was on watch when the attack came. the rest of the party was asleep at the time. Through incredible luck and fortune the 6 of you were able to fend off ten bandits. In the process the merchant was stabbed in the shoulder. Aside from a few scrapes and bruises no one else was seriously injured. The party was able to inflict some serious wounds on the bandits, but they all got away. Their leader wore a mask.

The party arrive at the Purple Weasel, headquarters to the Mercenary House in the Dock District, to collect their pay. Patch (dispatcher) informs them that he’s short on cash, but if their willing to do the rounds and collect insurance payments, he’ll have enough to pay what they are owed.

The party agrees and splits up to spend some time knocking on doors to get Patch his cash flow. During their rounds the party finds 2 merchants unwilling to pay: one shop was been burned to the ground, and the other shop was robbed. Unlike the other house leaders, Patch actually pays-out on the insurance policies.

Patch pays them what they are owed plus a some gold for their time collecting. He asks them to follow up with the complaints.

After some investigating, the party discovers that the shop that was burnt down, was down so deliberately by a couple of thieves from the Merchant District. the thieves have been known to vandalize and rob areas on their border in an attempt to encroach territory. In regards to the robbery, the party follows some leads, questioned the clerk on duty at the time and checked out his story. They soon conclude that the robbers were from one of the larger neighboring street gangs called the “Southies”.

The party reports back to Patch and he is not surprised nor particularly upset at what he learns. He hires the party to put some hurt on the “Southies”. The party takes out the first scouting party they find, possibly starting a gang-war, however as Patch controls the Mercenaries (largest private army in the Kingdom) and the Dock district (ie. over-seas smuggling) he is confident he can handle any backlash.

After bringing Patch back a crest as proof, he pays them their due, and asks if they will agree to robbing a Silk Shop in the Merchant district that is a front for the Thieves house, as payback against the thieves.

The group has mixed feelings.

Apprentiship Part2

June 17, 2010 Instead of engaging in crime, the group decides instead to pick up a simple delivery job. While at the Purple Weasel, Patch thinks to ask some questions about their recent assignment to Kayde, mainly wondering where the 7th of the group was. After hearing about the circumstances he becomes suspicious and encourages the group to look into Stavros’ background. The group learns through some mercenaries in the tavern that they believe Stavros to be a thief, and to ask around at the Dancing Peony in the merchant district. Auralis (sp?) spots a hulking Minotaur in a dimly lit corner of the bar, and tries to make friends with the creature. The Minotaur makes it clear that he does not care for attention. Before anything uglier than a knocked over table happens, the party quickly leaves and separate. One group going to the Docks to meet with the captain of the Black Orchid, and the other to the Dancing Peony. Before they go, Patch gives them a crest identifying them as a minor gang from the arena area. Patch also requests that the party obey the ship captain’s instructions regarding the letters, with the minor change that they bring the letters to him first. Razielle, Achamian and No Name head to the Dancing Peony, manging to avoid any confrontations with street thugs. They dine at the tavern and spot a few likely thieves also having dinner. Razielle approachs them and manages to buy information regarding Stavros. He has apparently set up as a highwayman, robbing travelers along the King’s road. They return to the Dock district.

The three assigned to the docks, find the ship and it’s Captain without incident. They bring the letters to Patch where he absconds with them into his office. Peter feeling this is not normal behavior makes careful note of the letters before he hands them over. The letters are sealed with an icon of a burning sword, the symbol of the Syndicate. He also notices a peculiarly dressed person in a dark corner all in red, with a cowl and two swords strapped across his back. While the three wait for Patch, Auralis stares at the Minotaur who is still in his corner. The Minotaur gets up and stalks over to Auralis, preparing to strike him when, the man in red appears in front of him and gets in the Minotaur’s face….well chest anyway, and reveals his nickname to be T-Bone and makes some rather disparaging remarks about eating the bull-man for dinner. The Minotaur, enraged attempts to put him in a bear-hug, when the man in red teleports behind, and in a blur, plants one of his swords through T-bone’s side. The Minotaur, bleeding profusely, growls and limps out of the Purple Weasel. The man in red introduces himself as Wade. Patch’s ‘enforcer’ and peace keeper among the mercenaries. Razielle, Achamian and No name return just in time to see the Minotaur from earlier limping down the road. As they enter, Patch returns from his office with the letters. Peter notices subtle alterations to the seal. As there are two letters, the group again splits up. The ladies to the Noble district to deliver to Lord Rothus, the men to the military district to deliver to General Lynch. From his extensive knowledge of history, Peter deduces that Patch his intercepting these letters to copy their contents, before delivering them to members of the Syndicate 9essentially his bosses) and that the letters themselves have to do with intelligence on the Arms Race. On the way to the Military District, Peter, Auralis and Achamian encounter a gang of street thugs demanding toll for passage through their territory. While Peter felt this was reasonable business, Auralis took the opportunity to attack. After dispatching their foes, they delivered the letter without incident, but were impressed with the General’s desire for discretion. Razielle, Kendra and Noname had a similar experience in their delivery but their would-be toll-takers were encountered on the way back home. Once back at the Purple Weasel and after comparing notes, the party decides to turn-in, and go pay Stavros a visit in the morning. His camp is a half-day’s journey East along the highway. The party manages to find the thieves just as the thieves find them. A short battle ensues and Stavros falls.

Final test

June 25, 2010 The party sets out to return to Wekton and they encounter a slave caravan. The slaves are under Orc guard and have a War Troll with them.

The party successfully free the slaves and learn they were from Lord Ahmad’s estate in the interior. The slaves tried to escape but were captured by the Orcs and were being taken to Platonia to be sold.

The party returns to Wekton without further incident and claim the bounty on Stavros before retiring for the night. The next day the party has their final Guild test. Armed combat against T-bone’s Minotaur party, at the Gladiator Arena.

Using the Arena’s pit-traps, the party is able to control much of the encounter. The Minotaurs are strong and resilient, but the party wears them down. During the combat wild DireTigers are introduced to the combat. The Diretigers being starved go after the easiest prey, which turned out to be T-bone and group.

The party are declared the winners and now must prepare themselves to be full members.

Goodbye Peter
a new job

July 15, 2010 The party awakes to a note from Peter detailing that he has been recalled to his monastery. He explains that he has been granted far longer leave than normal, and that he must return immediately.

The party finishes breakfast and heads to the Purple Weasel to inquire about work. Patch informs them that all other groups are out working and he only has one job to fill. He indicates a young handsome elf at a table.

The job is to take out Lord Ahmad of the Nechako valley. He has recently engaged in slavery, which is irked the King, and he has started to skim too much off the top, which has really irked the Syndicate. The Syndicate has withdrawn their support from Ahmad, leaving him an open target. Varis represents the Ministry of Interior and has made it his mission to remove Ahmad from his fortified keep.

After some rookie negotiations (it is the party’s first job as full members and thus able to negotiate their own rates) the party and the Elf Varis come to an agreement. 200GP a day plus an equal share in the treasure (after the King’s and Syndicate’s cut).

To ensure the success of the mission, Varis employs 4 thieves under the same agreement.

Without wasting time, the party procures mounts and journeys East.

After 4 days of travel besot with fighting off monsters, the party reaches the Inn of the Last Home, in the small orchard town of Eastfall, an easy half day journey from the Keep.
